Telford Homes and Matthew Lloyd Architects win Hackney Design Award
Telford Homes' and Matthew Lloyd Architects' Frampton Park Baptist Church development was one of just seven winners in the 2016 Hackney Design Awards competition.
The results of this year's Hackney Design Awards were announced on Tuesday 29th November, following a lengthy deliberation by the Hackney design review panel chaired by Russell Brown, founding partner of Hawkins/Brown Architects. From the original 50 submissions, a shortlist of 16 schemes was announced in September before the seven winners were selected.
The Hackney Design Awards competition was established in 2004 to recognise and reward outstanding buildings and public spaces of high quality design in the Borough. This year, the review panel judged all types of buildings, completed since August 2014, from residential and commercial to educational uses. Since the inception of the awards, over 250 nominations have been received, 93 shortlisted and 53 recognised as winners, commendations or mentions.
The Frampton Park development embodies the Hackney Design Awards' appreciation and celebration of great design. Fronting the development is the new Frampton Park Baptist Church, a statement building designed to blend seamlessly with the new housing. Marketed as Hackney Square, the development is a sophisticated collection of 47 one, two and three-bedroom homes set around a landscaped courtyard. The new Church is accessed from Frampton Park and a cafe opens onto a new green space which can also be used by local residents. All apartments above ground have private balconies, and ground floor apartments have a small private patio area and direct access to the communal garden. The site is well located for public transport and cycle storage is provided. Located on Frampton Park Road, just a few minutes' walk from Mare Street and London Fields in the vibrant and cultural hub of Hackney, the apartments have been designed to maximise comfort and style.
