Charlie and Sinead’s case study – Why buy with Bow?
28-year old Sinead Donnelly and partner Charlie Langdell (28) have escaped the rising costs of renting by pooling their savings and buying a two-bedroom apartment at Telford Homes’ Bow Garden Square in trendy East London. Sinead, who works as a Nuclear Medicine Radiographer, and Charlie who works in Scripted Development in TV will move into their new apartment in time for Valentine’s Day next year.
Sinead and Charlie met in Birmingham after they had both graduated. After a couple of years in the Midlands, they made the move to Mile End, a stone’s throw from their new neighbourhood of Bow. Sinead recalls how they fell in love with the area so knew that when the time came to purchase their own home that they didn’t want to stray far.
“We’re spoilt for choice at the weekends. If you walk one way you find yourself at Regent’s Canal and then Victoria Park, which has an amazing food market on a Sunday. Walk a few minutes the other way and you have local shops selling everything from vintage clothes to fresh fruit and veg.”
Sinead, who is a keen runner, says that having Victoria Park on her doorstep is going to give her the work-life balance she craves. One of her favourite weekend haunts is Genesis, an Independent Arthouse Cinema in nearby Stepney Green housed in a renovated nineteenth century building.
Their brand new two-bedroom apartment cost £498,800, requiring a ten per cent deposit. Fuelled by a shared desire to break free from years of renting, the pair combined their savings and had the final required injection of cash from their parents. Sinead and Charlie have been putting money aside every month for around five years and think of their new home as a great long-term investment. “We knew that it made a lot of sense to put our funds together as the area is really up and coming so it looks like it’s going to be a strong investment for the future. Renting in London is so expensive we couldn’t keep doing it for ever.”
Situated on the third floor of Telford Homes’ Bow Garden Square development, the couple hand-picked their apartment off-plan based primarily on the incredible views. “Our apartment has a great view onto Canary Wharf but we’ll also have the greenery from the grounds below. There’s a huge Wingnut tree right beneath our balcony.”

Their south-facing balcony is large enough for a table and chairs and will provide a great extension to the spacious kitchen-diner in the warmer months. “We have made a lot of friends in the area since we moved here a couple of years ago. We have siblings living close by too so we’re excited to entertain them once we move in. The living area is pretty spacious so dinner parties will be a regular occurrence, we can’t wait.”
The regeneration across East London is providing much needed homes close to the capital’s financial district. Both Sinead and Charlie are looking forward to their seven-minute commute to Bank Station. “Having a quick and convenient commute is really important to us. We love spending our evening’s hanging out with friends and checking out new bars and restaurants. Spending more time above ground than underground was top of our new home tick-list and Bow hit the spot.”
