OLYMPICS MINISTER VISITS TELFORD HOMES’ ICONA DEVELOPMENT

The Minister for the Olympics and London has recently visited Telford Homes’ architecturally striking Icona development in Stratford, which overlooks the 2012 Olympic Park and is one of the first new buildings to be completed as part of regeneration plans for the area in preparation for the 2012 Olympics and beyond. As part of the visit, organised by the London Thames Gateway Development Corporation, the Rt Hon Tessa Jowell MP unveiled a plaque to commemorate her visit, which will take pride of place at the development.

The showpiece of the iconic scheme on Warton Road is an 18-storey elliptical tower, which affords a spectacular view over the Olympic zone and all across London. On seeing the view and the works on the Olympic site from Icona’s tower, the minister complimented the scheme and remarked it was “quite amazing to see the Olympic Park in this way. Stratford will be an amazing place to live.”

John Fitzgerald, Group Managing Director of Telford Homes Plc. (Alto) and Nick Drew, Partnerships Director at Telford Homes, along with Geoff Pearce, Group Director of Development and Rod Constanti, Head of Development, from East Thames Group, Telford Homes’ public sector partner on the project, showed the minister around the development. They talked through the important relationship between Telford Homes and East Thames Group in providing quality local housing and also the role Icona will play in spearheading the regeneration of the Stratford area.

John Fitzgerald commented: “We are very proud of Icona and were delighted to show the Minister for the Olympics and London around the development. She was very enthusiastic about the development and how it will play a big part in helping to regenerate the Olympic zone, making Stratford an exciting place to live and work, not just for 2012, but for many decades to come. She was also very keen to hear about the relationship between the private and public sectors and how we are working alongside one another to develop this landmark scheme.”

Peter Andrews, chief executive of the London Thames Gateway Development Corporation added: “This was a great opportunity for the Minister to see at first hand the enormous amount of regeneration activity taking place around the Olympic Park and it was particularly encouraging to see such a high quality housing scheme being delivered by Telford Homes and East Thames Group.”
